X-Terra 70: Defining Flexibility in Metal Detectors with the X-Terra 70

The X-Terra is the coin, relic and gold detector line from Minelab. The flagship of the X-Terra line is the X-Terra 70. The X-Terra 70 weighs in at 2.9 pounds, excluding the battery. It has a length of 56 inches when extended and 48 inches when un-extended. It comes with a Positive Reflective LCD for visual display and an internal speaker as well as a headphone jack for audio.

What makes the X-Terra 70 the flagship of the X-Terra line is the number  of features it has. First, it has two different detection modes: Coin and Treasure mode as well as the Prospecting mode. Under coin and treasure mode, the X-Terra 70 will focus on identifying possible coin targets. This is ideal for areas with high level of concentration of other worthless metal objects such as bottle caps. The Prospecting mode is used to find valuable metals such as gold nuggets and even relics. Secondly, the X-Terra 70 also has two options to adjust ground balance: Normal and Salt-water Beach. Unlike other metal detectors that can only accommodate one or two coils, the X-Terra 70 can interchange between three different coils at different frequencies as well. However, out of the box, the X-Terra only has one coil, a 9-inch concentric coil operating at 7.5 kHz – you would need to purchase the other coils separately. Nonetheless, the ability to use different coils will guarantee that the X-Terra will last for quite some time before being obsolete.

The X-Terra line metal detectors are the first to receive Minelab’s VFLEX technology, and the X-Terra 70 is no different. VFLEX technology employs state-of-the-art technology that enhances the standard, single-frequency technology. They removed a lot of the analog circuitry and replaced them with digital ones, giving you great performance and better protection against environmental factors such as interference, ground mineralization and temperature. Every time you switch on the X-Terra 70, the highly calibrated coil will take note of the conditions, sends it to the control box and will automatically adjust the metal detector to optimal settings.

The X-Terra 70 is quite flexible when it comes to what batteries it can use. It is capable of using Alkaline, Lithium, NiMH and even NiCad. Using NiMH or NiCad rechargeable batteries will yield you 20+ hours of metal detecting power. With Alkaline batteries, you can get as much as 26 hours before needing to change batteries.

The flexibility of the X-Terra 70, combined with the VFLEX technology and the ability to interchange coils make the X-Terra 70 an impressive all-around metal detector.
