Minelab Quattro MP: Metal Detecting Without the Fuss with the Minelab Quattro MP

In the world of metal detectors, it takes something quite different to stand out. For Minelab, that something is the FBS or Full Band Spectrum technology. It is a technology that they are incorporating on many of their metal detectors. One such metal detector is the Minelab Quattro MP.

The Quattro MP is a coin and relic detector from Minelab. It weighs in at 3.7 pounds without the batteries and has a length of 55 inches when fully extended and 43 when un-extended. It is quite heavy once assembled, though you’d get used to it quite fast. It has a 64 x 128 pixel LCD for visual pin-pointing. The LCD is quite large and easy to read. However, due to the lack of backlighting, the LCD is hard to rid in dim environments. The Quattro also has internal speakers as well as headphone jacks for audio pin-pointing. Setting up the Quattro MP is a breeze. The manual includes instructions and visual guides on how to connect the different parts of the Quattro MP.

What makes the Quattro MP really shine is the FBS technology. The FBS technology combines the previous technology of Minelab, the Broad Band Spectrum with a more powerful microprocessor. The end result is that the Quattro MP is able to emit multiple frequencies all at the same time – 28 frequencies all in all. The frequency ranges from 1.5 kHz up to 100 kHz, all transmitted simultaneously. The FBS technology promises better scan depths and a more accurate identification of targets. The Quattro MP also has the impressive Iron and Hot rock discrimination technology from Minelab. 4 different detect modes are available: Coin, Coin/Jewelry, Relic and all-Metal. These detect modes will be of help to those who are new in the field of metal detecting. Just choose a mode and you are ready to go. If you are more familiar with the different settings or if you find the factory pre-sets not working for you, you can create your own modes and save them in one of the four available personal modes.

The Quattro MP comes with a NiMH battery pack. The NiMH is a 1600 mAh pack and can provide up to 12.5 hours of power to the Quattro. You can also use 8 pieces of 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries. This can provide you with up to 14 hours of use.

The FBS technology, pre-set modes and the excellent discrimination technology from Minelab make the Minelab Quattro MP an excellent get-up-and-go metal detector that can work in virtually any type of soil condition.
